Black Bag | Film Review
When searching for a mole suspected of betraying the nation, intelligence agent George (Michael Fassbender) discovers that one of the suspects is his wife.
I heard such great things about this film so I was really excited to see it, especially because of how amazing the cast was!
Other than Fassbender the film stars Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Rege-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke and Pierce Brosnan, and they were all amazing in their roles!
Plus they gave us a really interesting mix of characters. They're all written really well and add so much to the story.
On the surface the premise isn't completely original, but the story is told in a really original way.
The tension begins and builds perfectly.
It's really well written, particularly the dialogue. Not even necessarily the words the characters say, but the way they speak gives us a really interesting insight into who each of them really are.
90 minutes is the perfect length for a film like this. Not only do we learn everything we need to about the story and characters, but some of the characters and events of the film weren't interesting enough to warrant more of the plot being spent on them.
There are certain scenes, like the polygraph test, that have you completely locked in. Everything about it was done so well.
But having said that, this isn't a film I'd really think about after the credits roll. It was interesting but didn't feel particularly impactful.
I initially thought that the whole film would take place at the dinner table, and I was really excited about that idea. Something like that would have allowed us to really get to know the characters, and it would have been very original.
But as it stands, the reveal didn't mean too much because, as enjoyable as it was, it's not something that I cared too much about or thought too much about throughout the film or when it was over.
Overall, while I didn't love this as much as others seem to, it was an enjoyable film and a fun 90 minutes.
7/10
