Love Lies Bleeding | Film Review
Lou (Kristen Stewart) meets and quickly falls for Jackie (Katy M. O'Brian). But their romance soon turns deadly as they are both pulled into the ways of Lou's criminal family.
I remember hearing a lot about this when it came out, but since then I've heard nothing, so I wasn't really thinking about it when it came out on Prime Video, but I was interested in seeing it.
I liked this film, but not as much as I wanted to.
The thing I liked the most from the start was the characters. They're well written and for the most part feel really authentic.
You can't tell just from watching the film where it will go, but the more you watch, the more compelling it is.
The acting is great, both Stewart and O'Brian are the heart of the movie and they do an amazing job with their characters.
But as interesting as their characters are, I never felt any connection to either of them. They were fun to watch, but it didn't really matter to me how they ended up.
While watching, I enjoyed the story but I never felt 100% engaged with it. Once you get over the shock value, a lot of the film felt like just waiting for more interesting things to happen.
But in saying that, as the characters get more unhinged towards the end of the film, it gets really engaging, but by then a bit of interest is already lost.
It's a lot better when it leans into the chaos.
Overall, this is a unique story that gets a bit dull in places, but becomes better the more you watch. It's probably not one I'd watch again but it's definitely worth a first watch.
6/10
