Zombieland: Double Tap | Film Review

Hey Guys x

I saw the first Zombieland film about a year and a half ago, and I absolutely loved it, so I definitely wanted to see this one. When it came out on the Sky Premiere channel, I watched it as soon as I got the chance.

Ten years since we were first introduced to Zombieland, we re-join Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahasse (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) as they continue to face off against Zombies. But as Zombies become more advanced, and a member of the group goes missing, can they follow the rules and save their team before it's too late?

I enjoyed this film a lot.

It's really inventive and original from before the first minute. One of the reasons for this (other than the very opening scene) is the voice-over. It is something that is maintained from the first film, and is done just as well the second time around.

It has the right amount of gore - it's realistic without being vomit-inducing.

My favourite thing this time around was the concept of the rules. It was good in the first film, but the way it was focused on in the second made the whole concept even better and more creative.

For a while, in the middle of the film, nothing much happens. All of the new characters that we're introduced to get left behind, and it seems unnecessary to even include them.

However, the new characters introduced are really interesting. In particular, my favourite was the character of Madison. Not only did I like her character, but I really liked her arc and what was done with her. Plus, Zoey Deutch played her really well.

But going back to our original characters, as nice as it is to see them again, it feels like they haven't changed enough between the two films, or even by the end of the second film, to warrant a sequel. They feel like exactly the same characters that we met at the beginning of the first film.

And then there's the end. It was predictable, but that wasn't really a problem for me. It ended the way that the audience would want it to.

Overall, while a sequel wasn't necessary, it carries on well from the first, there's a good story that makes sense, and it keeps the best things from the first. Having said that, the original will always be the best.

6.5/10
