Five Nights at Freddy's 2 | Film Review

A year after the incident at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, Abby's (Piper Rubio) desire to reconnect with her animatronic friends sets into a motion a series of events that put her, Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) in grave danger.

I liked the first film. It wasn't a masterpiece, but I had a good time with it. So even though I was apprehensive about this one due to the bad reviews, I did want to see it.

And I'm glad I did because I had a great time with this one too!

I thought the opening scene was really well done, and honestly scarier than the entirety of the first movie.

I liked the characters more this time around - now that we know who they are and what their pasts were, we're able to just enjoy the film rather than trying to figure them out, which makes way for more fun and scares.

There were some great additions to the cast, though all of them were completely underused.

The kills and scares were really fun.

I really loved seeing Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard in the same movie once again - but it would have been nice to see more of them, or maybe even see them together (though I don't know if that would have worked for the plot but who cares?). Both gave great performances.

The film didn't take itself too seriously, which is one of the best things about it. The filmmakers and cast know exactly what they're making and so do the audience.

While I liked the first movie, I didn't find it that memorable. After seeing it, there were only a couple of plot points that I could remember, and while I planned to rewatch it before seeing the sequel, the fact that I couldn't remember anything about it didn't make me want to see it again.

And while I don't know if I'll remember this one any better in a year's time, I definitely think I'll remember how much fun I had with it. So in that sense I'd say this one is better than the first (but maybe I'll watch the first again to really compare).

Overall I'll say it again, I had a lot of fun with this movie. It's not a masterpiece or an Oscar winner, but it's what I wanted it to be.

6.5/10
