My Christmas Inn | Blogmas Day 4

Image
Hey Guys x It's Blogmas day 4! I just started re-watching 'Sister, Sister' on Netflix, so when I saw that one of Christmas movies on Netflix starred Tia Mowry-Hardrict, I couldn't wait to watch it! When Jen Taylor (Tia Mowry-Hardrict) inherits her great-aunt's inn, and has to travel to a small town in Alaska in order to sell it, she ends up finding more than she ever expected. I really liked this film. It was what I wanted from a Hallmark Christmas film. We've all seen this story 100 times before, and I for one will never get bored of the classic plot-line. Jen and Brian (Rob Mayes) have really great chemistry, and this is evident from their first moments together on screen. What really makes films like this work is the chemistry between the two leads, and these two have chemistry well before anything romantic happens. I would go so far as to say that they are my favourite Christmas couple so far this Blogmas! Speaking of the characters, I LOVED the 'Sister...

Operation Christmas Drop | Blogmas Day 3

Image
Hey Guys x Happy Blogmas Day 3! This one is a Netflix movie. It didn't have a premise that I was particularly excited about, but I'm a huge fan of Kat Graham, so I definitely wanted to see it. Erica (Kat Graham) is a political aide who clashes with Air Force pilot Andrew (Alexander Ludwig) when she tries to shut down his Christmas project, 'Operation Christmas Drop'.    This wasn't my favourite Christmas film, for a variety of reasons. It kind of felt like the film takes place in the most un-Christmassy location as a way of being an original Christmas film. And while it does work a bit, the premise as a whole isn't original. In fact, it's quite Hallmark. The characters and the story remain bland for a really long time, and it feels like nothing much actually happens. It takes a while to warm up to them. Not only is this because the story in and of itself is quite boring, but also because Andrew as a character doesn't have much of a personality besides b...

Holidate | Blogmas Day 2

Image
Hey Guys x Happy Blogmas Day 2! Just from the name of the film, I couldn't tell if this was a Christmas film or not. Because of that, I wasn't sure if I was going to include it in my Blogmas posts. But even if the link to Christmas specifically isn't huge, it's enough to be included. Slone (Emma Roberts) is tired of her family constantly asking about her love life, and Jackson (Luke Bracey) is tired of spending the holidays with strange women. So when these two strangers meet, they agree to be each other's Holidates (plus-ones for every holiday event) for a year. But will they realise how much better the holidays are when they're together? I liked this movie, and I felt that it was the right one to begin the Christmas period with - getting you in the mood for Christmas without being too festive. There is a really great introduction to these two characters. They develop chemistry really quickly and they seem to work well together. The premise isn't necessari...

Happiest Season | Blogmas Day 1

Image
Hey Guys x Happy Blogmas Day 1! I can't believe it's actually December already! I only purchase/rent movies from Amazon Prime Video very occasionally, but as soon as I saw that this was out, I knew I'd be buying it. I had been excited to see it since the first trailer came out, so I thought that it was only right that I start Blogmas with it. Abby (Kristen Stewart) is planning to propose to her girlfriend Harper (Mackenzie Davis) on Christmas morning at Harper's parent's home. However, when they get there, Abby realises that Harper hasn't come out to her parents. Can their relationship survive going back into the closet? I knew I would like this film, and I'm so glad I did. Even before it starts, the cast is amazing! Other than Stewart and Davis, we have Alison Brie as Sloane, Aubrey Plaza as Riley, Dan Levy as John, Mary Holland as Jane, and Harper's parents are played by Mary Steenburgen and Victor Garber! Seriously, how amazing is this cast?! But bac...

Blogmas 2020!

Image
Hey Guys x It's 28th November, which means that it's almost Blogmas! As usual, I am doing Blogmas - I couldn't miss it.  I thought a lot about how I would do Blogmas this year, as I've tried it a few different ways. Last year, I did 24 Christmas movie reviews, and I have to say that I absolutely loved it, and have such fond memories from last Christmas because of it. So this year, I've decided to do exactly what I did last year - 24 Christmas movie reviews! I'm so excited to get started - this year I feel like I have so much less time to dedicate to movies, but that's another reason why I want to do Blogmas like this. So I'm forced to make time for films. Like last year, I'll mostly be reviewing films from Netflix and Amazon Prime, but I'm gonna be less strict about that this time around - mostly because I don't want to run out of films! Also like last year, I'll be ignoring my usual star rating, instead rating the movies based on: Origin...

Rebecca (2020) | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I didn't know that much about this film before watching it, but I had seen a lot of mixed reviews for it. Once I read what it was actually about, and found out that it was based on a book by Daphne Du Maurier (who also wrote 'The Birds', which I loved) I decided to see why so many people were talking about it. A girl (Lily James) falls in love and marries a wealthy man (Armie Hammer), immediately moving into his family estate. But when she gets there, she realises that she is living in the shadow of her husband's first wife, Rebecca. I have mixed feelings about this film - some of it I loved, and some of it I didn't. One of the things the film got right, in my opinion, was the beginning of the relationship. I thought, even though there was a sinister undertone throughout the movie, their relationship was really endearing and sweet. But there is also a tension simmering under the surface that you can't quite put your finger on. Although the events at ...

A Nice Girl Like You | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I remember seeing this when I was scrolling through Netflix and being really intrigued. I like Lucy Hale as an actress, and I'd never seen a film with a premise quite like this one, so I thought it would be an interesting watch. After Lucy Neal (Lucy Hale) is dumped by her boyfriend over her lack of sexual expertise, she creates a sex-based to-do list that leads her on a journey of love and self-discovery. I didn't like this movie as much as I thought I might. I like the premise, and it does what it says it will do, but for me it just wasn't executed in the right way. The cardinal sin of this movie is that it is boring.   This starts with the character of Lucy, who is not only boring, but also a bit unlikeable (at least at the beginning of the film). I am completely fine with her being a prude, and being inexperienced and embarrassed. But there's a way for her to be a prude without being boring. We could have got to know who she is as a person, rather than h...
