Gone With The Wind | 100 Movies Bucket List

I don't think there's anyone who hasn't heard of this film. As far as classics go, this would be high on the list of most revered movies ever made.

So while I hadn't seen it, I was looking forward to seeing it and finally getting to tick it off this, and virtually every other bucket list imaginable.

The first thing that struck me about it was the score. It has the kind of score that makes you feel nostalgic for a time you never experienced.

Scarlett O'Hara is a really interesting character to centre this story around. She is generally considered an unlikeable protagonist (with good reason), and yet you're completely drawn to her throughout the film. Even though we don't like her or the things she does, even though we can't relate to her or root for her, she is so endearing that the audience can't help but be in her corner - even while we're hating her!

It's also really fun to follow her through this time period, to see the way she develops as the world around her changes. She's a really well-written character, particularly because the writers knew exactly who she was and never tried to change that to make her more palatable for an audience.

This film is really visually stunning. I feel like in modern film we went through a period of not using bright colours, and everything looking a bit dull. In the last year or so we're kind of going back to colour, and it's great. But watching older films makes you realise just how much we're missing when we don't use bright vivid colours.

This film is beautiful, you can see everything when it's dark, you can practically feel the fire and rain, the colours of the clothes stand out, everything is just stunning. Even if you hated the story, it would be a great watch just on the visuals alone.

But speaking of the story, it's great! I loved that we have the backdrop of the war, we have so many really heavy (and controversial) ideas about war, race, history, and at the centre of this really heavy setting is the story of a girl who loves and wants to be loved, who makes bad decisions, who fights for what she wants. It's a story that you can really become invested in, it's told incredibly well and it's just so entertaining!

Another reason it works so well is because of the acting. All of the actors were amazing, you almost forget you're watching a film because they just feel so authentic and real that you never question anything that happens.

Also, considering the film is almost 4 hours long, the pacing is great! The film completely flies by because you're so engrossed.

All in all, this film is absolutely iconic, a classic for a reason! I really enjoyed it and I'm so glad it was on the bucket list!
