One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest | 100 Movies Bucket List

I had heard of this movie before watching it, and knew that it was a classic, but never knew what it was about. And even after reading the premise, it still feels like I went in blind.

I liked it a lot.

The first thing I took in about the film was how good the acting was. Jack Nicholson is great as always, but he's really bolstered by the amazing supporting cast, which includes Will Sampson, Louise Fletcher, Danny DeVito, William Redfield, Sydney Lassick, Brad Dourif and Christopher Lloyd. They're all amazing in their respective roles and completely integral to telling this story.

The story itself is a really interesting one. Even if you go in blind you're completely invested from the second it starts.

But what makes everything about it so compelling, the story and the characters, is the writing. Everything about the film is written so well.

The dialogue between and about the characters is powerful and allows the audience to truly feel a part of the story, and to get to know the characters on a deeper level even when we don't know much about them.

It's great to see the friendships that develop between the characters. The closer they get to each other, the closer the audience is allowed to get to them, and as they bond, we form our own bonds that make us completely invested in every aspect of the story. Because ultimately, it's about the characters more than anything else.

This is the kind of film that could do or say nothing, and still be engaging. Not that much happens, but you don't even notice because it moves so quickly and everything that does happen is really interesting.

There are a lot of really deep themes throughout the film, mostly disguised by comedy. When we look at the friendships, the ideas of abuses of power and individuality vs conformity, the film is saying so much more than what appears on the surface, and I think that's one of the things that makes it a classic. There is so much going on here.

This is one of those films that makes me miss being at university, because I'd love to write an essay on it!

It was a lot darker and more harrowing than I expected, especially when it gets closer to the end. Once its over you really feel like you've been on a journey with these characters.

This one is a classic for a reason, and I'm really glad it was on the bucket list.
