Hey Guys x

This is another of the movies that came out on Netflix with an interesting plot. I'm really into mysteries at the moment, and this one seemed really original, so I was excited to watch it.

Anna (Carly Schroeder) is a newlywed who moves to a remote island with her new husband, who is a mystery writer. However, soon she discovers the mystery of his dead ex-wife, and wonders if she's going to be next.

I didn't like this film at all. Which is annoying because I really thought I would.

First of all, and this is a mild spoiler that comes out in the first 30 seconds of the movie - why would you show the face of the killer in the first scene of the film?? It takes away any chance of us believing that this person is innocent and kills the mystery of the movie.

There's also no chemistry between the couple. The problem with starting a film when two people are already married is that you don't get to see them fall in love, so you have to believe that they are. These two were not believable as a couple from the first moment that they're on screen together.

I spent so much time wondering what the hell was going on.
The best way I can describe this film is that it felt like everyone involved in the film was asked to make a film without ever actually seeing one.

The film goes nowhere for such a long time that it actually feels pointless. The only reason for hanging on is to find out if anything actually happens to this main character, but by the time it gets there, you don't even care.

Why give the main girl a backstory that adds nothing to the plot? I guess they were trying to make the audience care about the girl, but it didn't have that effect because she wasn't an interesting character with or without the back story, so it was just a bit pointless and unnecessary. But to be fair, it's not just Anna's character - none of these characters are interesting enough to carry this film, so putting them together doesn't do anything for the movie.

Overall, as you can tell, I'm not a fan, and probably won't watch it again.

3/10 for the idea, which just didn't work.

Lou
